This project involved the design of a two-page infographic factsheet developed for the Health Effects Institute (HEI) in conjunction with Special Report 23 (2022), the largest global review to date examining the public health impacts of traffic-related air pollution. The factsheet was created as a condensed, accessible companion resource to translate complex scientific findings into a clear format for policymakers, advocates, and the general public.

The publication addresses urgent public health issues, including the disproportionate burden of traffic pollution on historically marginalized communities, the paradox of rising pollution levels despite advances in vehicle emissions technology, and the ongoing challenges facing air quality policy and regulation. The design needed to balance scientific credibility with readability, ensuring the content could be quickly understood while retaining accuracy and authority.

I was contacted directly by HEI through referral from a global environmental organization to execute the design. Using a disciplined infographic approach, I organized data, summaries, and visual cues into a cohesive layout that supports both print and digital distribution. Careful attention was given to hierarchy, spacing, and color usage to guide readers through the material without overwhelming the content.

The final factsheet functions as an effective public-facing tool, extending the reach of HEI’s research and supporting informed dialogue around air quality, equity, and health.
