This project involved the development of a visual identity for Youth Enjoy Science Oklahoma (YES OK), a STEM education and research program based at the University of Oklahoma and supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health. The program is designed to increase American Indian youth participation in biomedical and cancer research by connecting traditional tribal knowledge with modern science education.
The logo was created to serve as a bridge between academic research and Indigenous community engagement. A key visual element—the double helix—was integrated into the mark to represent biomedical science, while regionally informed Indigenous motifs were translated into a contemporary visual system that feels both respectful and forward-looking. The goal was to ensure the identity communicated credibility within university and research contexts while remaining culturally resonant for Native youth and tribal communities.
Developed in Adobe Illustrator, the identity was designed for flexibility across outreach materials, educational programming, and digital platforms. The project also includes a documented concept exploration phase, presenting multiple logo prototypes to demonstrate creative process, decision-making, and responsiveness to client feedback—an approach that supports transparency and collaboration in institutional design work.
