This project involved the design of a multi-page publication created for the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission (LANAIC) in recognition of Native American Heritage Month (NAHM). The 2023 theme, A Community Embracing the Future, centered celebration, continuity, and recognition of American Indian and Alaska Native leadership across Los Angeles County.
The publication highlights LANAIC’s annual NAHM honorees, selected for their contributions to culture, community, and creativity. The design functions as both a commemorative and informational piece, amplifying the voices, stories, and achievements of honorees while reinforcing the Commission’s role in civic recognition and community representation.
I was invited as a graphic designer to develop the publication’s visual system and editorial layout, drawing on my experience designing institutional and community-centered materials. Using a disciplined grid, strong typographic hierarchy, and carefully paced spreads, the design balances professionalism with expressive elements that honor the celebratory nature of the event. Visual treatments combine an industrial clarity with creative restraint, ensuring the content remains accessible, dignified, and appropriate for a public-sector audience.
The final publication supports LANAIC’s mission by elevating community recognition through thoughtful design, reinforcing both visibility and respect within a civic framework.
