This project involved the design of an educational handout developed for the UCLA Wellbeing for LA Learning Center in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. The resource was created to support caregivers in fostering children’s communication skills, strengthening caregiver–child relationships, and promoting positive behaviors through play-based learning strategies.
The handout was designed for use within a learning platform, requiring a high degree of clarity, accessibility, and visual organization. My role focused on translating developmental and behavioral guidance into a visually engaging yet highly legible format that could be easily understood by caregivers across a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds.
Using Adobe Illustrator, I created vector-based illustrative elements that function as visual supports rather than distractions. The artwork emphasizes racial and cultural diversity while remaining neutral, inclusive, and appropriate for a public health audience. Particular attention was given to typographic hierarchy, spacing, and pacing to ensure the content could be scanned quickly while still supporting deeper reading when needed.
The final piece balances warmth and professionalism, reinforcing evidence-informed wellness practices through thoughtful design while maintaining the standards required for educational and mental health contexts.
