This project involved the development of a new brand identity and logo redesign for the California Tribal College, an institution working toward becoming the first four-year Tribal College in the State of California. The identity was designed to support the College’s mission of advancing higher education pathways that uphold Tribal sovereignty, strengthen Tribal leadership, and expand access to culturally relevant academic programs for Native students.
The scope of work focused on creating a cohesive visual system anchored in Indigenous knowledge and regional context. The logo and supporting brand elements draw from Northern California Tribal basketry patterns and forms, translating cultural references into a contemporary, scalable identity appropriate for institutional use. Care was taken to balance symbolism, clarity, and legibility across applications.
I was entrusted to execute this work as a Native designer with lived experience, ensuring cultural competency and responsibility throughout the design process. The resulting identity provides a strong foundation for the College’s public presence while honoring the role of Tribal Colleges in education, language preservation, and community empowerment.
