This project involved the development of a brand identity and website redesign for a STEM-focused research and education initiative at Navajo Technical University, created as part of the Partnership for Research and Education in Materials (PREM) VENTURES program. The initiative represents a collaboration between Navajo Technical University and the National Science Foundation–funded Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) at Harvard University, and is the first PREM program based at a Tribal university.
The program’s mission is to expand pathways for Native American students in STEM education and careers, from K–12 through graduate study, while strengthening research infrastructure at NTU and integrating Native perspectives and methods of inquiry into materials science. The work addresses health and environmental issues of direct relevance to the Navajo Nation, aligning scientific research with community priorities and cultural knowledge.
I was engaged as a Native graphic designer to develop a cohesive visual system that balanced academic credibility with cultural grounding. The scope included a logo design, color palette, and full website redesign. The logo draws from Southwest tribal motifs and geometry, paired with STEM-related iconography to reflect both Indigenous identity and scientific focus. The visual language was designed to feel contemporary, respectful, and appropriate within a research and higher-education context.
As part of the process, I developed a digital wireframe and page-flow prototype in Adobe XD to present the proposed site structure, content hierarchy, and user experience to the client prior to development. These wireframes allowed for clear collaboration and feedback, ensuring alignment before final execution. The final website design emphasizes clarity, accessibility, and consistency—organizing content, imagery, and navigation into a unified system that supports outreach, education, and institutional partnership.
This project demonstrates my ability to design at the intersection of culture, education, and science—translating complex, interdisciplinary goals into clear, culturally competent brand and digital systems.
